Supervision Requirements
LMSWs must provide clinical social work services under the supervision of an LCSW, a licensed psychologist, or a board-certified psychiatrist. The supervision must be regular and documented to ensure that it meets the required standards.
Clinical social work practice for LMSWs must occur in settings approved by the New York State Education Department. These can include professional service corporations, sole proprietorships, professional partnerships, and various state-regulated or federally authorized programs and facilities.
Acceptable Settings
— I have been running my PLLC for the past 2 years, through A Key Therapy, LCSW, PLLC, this is considered an acceptable setting.
Supervisor Qualifications
Supervisors must be qualified professionals with appropriate licensure and experience. This includes LCSWs, licensed psychologists with training in psychotherapy, and board-certified psychiatrists.

The supervision must be of a specified duration and frequency to qualify towards the licensure requirements for LCSWs. This typically includes a combination of individual and group supervision sessions, with detailed records maintained.
